About me

Hi all!

I hope to share on this site a few of the things that make me tick. Or perhaps the thing that makes me tick - the inner quest for truth, beauty and enlightenment. The more and more I progress through life, the more the reasons for living it are becoming clearer and more precious, like a diamond that is being polished by time.

Since 2003 I have been meditating in the Dublin Sri Chinmoy Centre [1] under the guidance of my meditation teacher Sri Chinmoy [1]. However, I had started meditating a year previously, inspired by reading a book loaned to me by a friend. Within a couple of weeks of committing to a daily meditation practice, I began to notice some remarkable changes in the way I looked at life: things that would normally be a sure bet to get on my nerves somehow failed to affect me, and my generally wound-up life started unwinding a little.

However, I very soon reached a certain stage in my meditation beyond which I could not pass; my mind would soon interject and place me back at square one. Even then I understood that there was no standing still on the path of self-discovery, it was either forwards or backwards, and so I was very much on the lookout for new ways to do deeper within. It was in this frame of mind that I saw a poster advertising free meditation classes run by the Dublin Sri Chinmoy Centre.

At these classes, a whole new possibility was opened up to me - meditating on the heart, that place in the centre of the chest where one can feel the core of one’s being. Most of my previous meditations had been mind-based, which of course left the mind still in control. Meditating on the heart, on the other hand, allowed me to completely bypass this mental chatter and tap into this source of warmth and love. It was attending these classes that I really awoke to the possiblility of embarking upon a meditation path with a genuine teacher; I had of course heard of other paths but the the possibility actually taking my meditation to that level had never really occured to me.

The only complaint I had is that they didn’t seem serious enough about extending their meditation so they could sit down all day . But I was soon to find out that there was more to the spiritual life - and this spiritual path - than just meditation. The process of attaining true happiness is far from easy, as we probably all well know at this stage, hemmed in by our own fears douts and insecurities. But as any good strategist will tell you, you will have better luck attacking a problem from many different points rather than charging straight through the front door. So in addition to meditation, I do a bit of running, I am learning to play the flute and harmonium, and I do my best to try and spread some of the inspiration I have received over the years. Myself and the rest of the Dublin Sri Chinmoy Centre put on free meditation classes for the general public in Dublin - we usually manage to hold seven or eight of these courses a year, and it gives me tremendous inner joy seeing people who might not previously have been aware of meditation before finally find a way to obtain lasting inner peace. I also serve as one of the Irish co-ordinators of the World Harmony Run, an international Olympic-style torch relay run, which passes through over 100 countries inspiring everyon towards the goal of world harmony.

So thats a little about me…
